Mobile mosques in Japan by 2020

Japan has launched a new project to develop mobile mosques to welcome Muslim visitors during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020, which will be available at the athletes’ village in Tokyo.

Japan’s Olympic organizers launched the project at the Toyota Stadium in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture by modifying a large truck to accommodate 50 worshipers, taking into account other factors such as ablutions and air conditioning in mobile mosques, adding a compass pointing towards Mecca.

The mobile mosques are expected to be piloted for the first time in Japan in 2019 during the Rugby World Cup.
